Thailand Herping Trip Turns Up an Oriental Bay Owl
Awesome Oriental bay Owl, Phodilus badius, we found on a herping trip in Krabi recently. This owl let us get to within 2-3 meters to shoot photos, and didn’t move at all – hence the amazing photo below.

We’ve seen about a dozen of these owls over the years. They are common in Krabi and surrounding areas. I even saw one hunting and it had caught something. It stayed on the ground in front of me, covering the prey up. It stayed there until I left.
