Thailand Snakes Forum – at Facebook

Maintaining a separate FORUM for Thailand Snakes has become too much of a time-suck. Forum members couldn’t even post photos of snakes they found in Thailand.

I decided to move everything to Facebook. Most people are on it already, and they have a VERY easy system for uploading photos, videos, or posting comments on anything there. I started posting some photos of snakes there already and we have 60 friends there already.

Please join over there by just clicking the “LIKE” at the top of the page.

Thailand Snake Forum

A couple months ago I thought I’d start a forum for Thailand snakes. There are many forums already for snakes of all types, but no good Thailand forum – specifically for our snakes.

Growing the Thailand Snake Forum

There are now 60 members in the Thailand Snake forum, and though most people don’t post – they are reading a lot of the posts. Which is good. I haven’t been posting there outside of my regular articles (like this one) which the forum software copies as a new post.

Right now we’re in the best months for seeing snakes – June, July, August, September I usually count as the best. Many baby snakes have been born and hatched around July and are running all over the jungles trying to find toads, lizards, and frogs to feast on. The small snakes are sometimes harder to spot – other times they are easier to spot because they don’t know how to be as still as the adults when someone is close looking for them.

If you get any photos of snakes, would you post them in the forum? It’s a bit of a pain in the butt to get them posted, but once you figure out the process like a few forum-members already have, you’ll be up and running with it. If you need help posting pics, just let me know (info[{at]}thailandsnakes.com, minus the brackets.

I’m really hoping for some rain today so I can do some more night-herping. I had a blast the other day, but didn’t find snakes. Found all sorts of other things though. Snakes would be nice to find while herping – you know?

Good luck to you on your herping adventures – and let us know what you found. If you have video you can post it at Youtube first and then copy and past the embed code into the snake forum to share the video with everyone else.

Cheers,

Vern

Thailand Snakes Forum – Open Now

I have been wanting to put a forum on Thailand Snakes for a couple of weeks now but just no time to do it. Today I found what I think is a good solution called Simple-Press for WordPress sites. It is a plugin that just took a little bit of coding to get right. The developer’s home page has a faq and installation guide that covered everythign I needed to know. There are skins and icons you can use or customize your own.

The Thailand snakes forum is primarily a place to come and ask questions about snakes and have snakes Identified if you are in doubt. There is a section for sharing snake photos, snake videos, and other snake articles which you should feel free to use as your own showcase for what you have recorded electronically.

If there are any herpetologists that would like to come on board – that’d be great, as there is a limit to what I know and can find with research. I repeat – I am NOT a herpetologist! Just a guy with a healthy obsession about learning as much as possible about Thailand’s snakes and other reptiles, amphibeans, and even sometimes – insects.

Thailand Snakes

Cobras in the HOUSE!

Welcome to Thailand Snakes…

Thailand has 200+ snake species with over 60 of them - venomous. I created this site as a way to educate Thais and visitors to Thailand about snakes. Many people kill the snakes they see in Thailand, while in many cases - they are non-venomous and completely harmless. With this site I hope to give people a better idea what is harmful and what isn't.

Browse the many snake photos and videos here so you can identify snakes you see on your porch, in your bed, or underfoot.

If you have been bitten by a snake - go to a hospital FIRST. Don't waste time looking it up on the internet. With some snakes you need to have medical help as fast as possible. With others you have some time. I know a Thai man whose brother died in less than 10 minutes from a snake bite.

There are venomous (some say 'poisonous' erroneously) snakes everywhere in Thailand. Friends have had cobras in their kitchen, and others had kraits in the garage. Vipers love bushes and trees near water and walkways.

Bookmark this site so you can quickly identify snakes you have seen. Notice the variety of venomous and non-venomous snakes in Thailand - and realize that they come in all sizes, shapes, colors, and patterns.
