I befriended the crew at a local nature resort and have been out there to herp numerous times. It's a great spot for snakes and probably we've found more snakes there per square kilometer than anywhere else in Thailand so far. More variety as well.

I got a call from my Thai friend there who asked me – Uhm, Vern? You come here and get this snake?

I said – what does it look like?

Krait.

OK, on my way!

He had a small foot-long Malayan Krait (blue krait) that had crawled right over his wife's foot the night before as she pulled in the laundry from the clothesline about 9 pm.

Can you believe that?

Scary, scary stuff man. Kraits are known to really bite almost entirely at night – when they are on the hunt and their aggression seems to be a couple levels above what they are during the daytime. During the daylight I've not seen one strike. Apparently they don't really strike, they more just grab on if your arm or foot happens to be close enough.

So I took this amazing snake for a couple of days, shot some photos and videos and let it go in similar habitat up the road a couple km from the resort to my friend's delight. I did tell him there are likely more around there because this was a juvenile.
