I get a lot of comments at my Youtube videos – people asking whether snakes are all over Thailand. They're worried that they are going to be seeing snakes at every turn.

Nothing could be further from the truth. In most cases, anyway. There are some people that write me on this site for Snake Identification – multiple times in one year. They do see a lot of snakes. But, nobody has ever sent me more than 6 requests in a year. That means an average of seeing one snake every 2 months. That really is the max. I think if you are not actively looking for Thailand snakes – you will not find them, and they will not find you. Sure you'll see a snake every year, if you are outside much. If not – you probably won't. You can probably go for 10 years without seeing ANY snake if…

I fully agree. I have seen much more snakes, but I am also trying to see those. Many times it is still a quick view of disappearing tail. 9 months and I have seen keelbacks and have a possibility to take photos in 3 different location. Also had two "own" keelbacks in fish pond. Water snake was found in 2 different places and 3 different sizes. Bronzeback two times, two places and different sizes. Cobras twice on motorbike without and change to stop and take photos, tens of dead cobras on the small road. That 3-5 km road is 120% place to find a cobra. Seen there two black ones, one very big and long one. Also similar big one in the other place. Been reading a little bit more and not keen to chase those. Several snakes near the road with a quick view, but without trying to look, it is almost impossible to see a snake. I found out that monocled cobra can reach teo meters lenght or even some more and those could have been also those. I should try to take some photos and better look, but then it needs just to go after them, not only see those when going to somewhere.

Funny thing that in couple of weeks period I have seen 3 black cobras and two of those very big ones. Same with keelbacks and bronzebacks. Just in two-three weeks seen both and then some time without seeing. Still in the countryside it is very seldom, when you find a snake and most of people do not see. Also some people, who see, do not tell that they have seen.

Wow my friend, you see a lot of snakes!

For some reason Udon seems to have a bunch of snakes. Areas around Bangkok have a lot. Phuket has a lot. Nakhon si Thammarat has a lot. Phang Nga has a lot. Did I miss somewhere?
